We are Ab Initio class 0601 and we're training at the NLS to become professional airline pilots. Our training started on the 2nd of january 2006 and we hope to graduate in august 2007.
The training is divided in several phases. The first is a theory phase of eight months and after passing fourteen ATPL exams it's time for the second phase. This is the best phase, because this is where the real flying starts. This is done in Évora, Portugal and we'll each be flying about 160 hours in about eight months. After the phase Portugal we'll all have our CPL (Commercial Pilot License) with IR (Instrument Rating) and ME (Multi Engine) note. The last phase is the MCC (Multi Crew Co-operation) and this is the phase where we learn to work together in the cockpit and get to fly a few hours on a full flight simulator. After all this is completed, we get a so called "Frozen ATPL" (Airline Transport Pilot License) and we'll be able to apply for commercial airline pilot at airline companies all over Europe.
That's it in a nutshell. The progress we make can be followed via this website and our weblog, so have fun while you're here and please leave a message in our guestbook.
